Brooklyn is PrEP'd: A Beacon of Empowerment and Inclusivity

As we reflect on the success of our recent PrEP Aware Week 2023, we are filled with gratitude and optimism. The week was a testament to our steadfast commitment to fostering a healthier, HIV-free Brooklyn. With the theme 'PrEP is for Every Body', we took a significant stride in promoting awareness about Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and its role in preventing HIV.

Embracing Diversity: PrEP is for Every Body

At the heart of our mission is the belief that everyone in our vibrant borough deserves access to quality PrEP services. More than that, we strive to create an environment where all bodies are celebrated and all sexual activities are recognized as fundamentally healthy.

This year, we were thrilled to introduce our diverse team of ambassadors. Ranging from combat veterans to social media influencers, each ambassador embodied our ethos of sex positivity and body positivity. They shared their experiences, insights, and most importantly, their advocacy for PrEP and sexual health.

Collaborative Efforts: Brooklyn is PrEP'd!

Brooklyn is PrEP'd! is a collaborative PrEP program between the HEAT Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and The PATH Center at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. Since 2016, both health centers have worked relentlessly to ensure everyone in Brooklyn and beyond has access to quality PrEP services.

Our collaboration ensures acceptance of virtually all forms of health insurance, including private, Medicaid, or PrEP-AP. Co-locating other healthcare services at both facilities allows us to address many other issues facing our PrEP clients in-house, thus improving the continuity and thoroughness of care.

We understand the difficulty many face in accessing sexual health services. As such, we actively promote sexual health in Brooklyn, participating in numerous outreach events like health fairs, street festivals, and PrEP 101 educational trainings.

Looking Forward: The Fight Continues

In our bi-annual Brooklyn is PrEP'd! Network Meetings every Spring and Fall, we invite the community and other PrEP providers to discuss what's new in the world of HIV PrEP prevention. These meetings are crucial platforms to brainstorm ways to reduce barriers to accessing PrEP.

As we bask in the success of PrEP Aware Week 2023, we remain resolute in our mission. We look forward to having you as clients or supporters in our mission to ensure that Brooklyn is PrEP'd to stop HIV.

Join us, explore what Brooklyn is PrEP'd! has to offer, and be part of this transformative change. Together, let's make every week a PrEP Aware Week.
