The fight against HIV/AIDS calls for unity, empathy, and action. On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the HEAT Program will proudly take part in the World AIDS Day 2024 event, We Are Stronger Together, hosted by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department). This inspiring event will take place at the Dr. S. Stevan Dweck Cultural Center at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238) from 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM.
This year's theme, "Ending the Epidemic by Fighting Stigma, Building Community, and Empowering the Next Generation", aligns perfectly with HEAT’s mission to provide equitable health care and unwavering support to HIV+ and at-risk youth.
Justice Hall Shares Her Inspiring Story
We are thrilled to share that Justice Hall, one of HEAT’s clients, will serve as a speaker at the event. Justice will courageously share her story as part of an esteemed panel of speakers, including activists, community leaders, and policymakers. Her voice will shine a light on the personal impact of stigma and the importance of community support in advancing the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Our very own HEAT representative will have the honor of moderating this impactful panel discussion. Serving not only as a participant but also as a collaborator in planning this event, HEAT reaffirms its commitment to empowering voices from the community and fostering meaningful conversations about stigma, prevention, and empowerment.
HEAT’s Tabling at the Event
From 9:45 AM, HEAT will also host a table during the morning of the event. Visitors are invited to stop by our booth to learn more about our comprehensive programs, including access to PrEP/PEP services, mental health care, transgender health services, and community initiatives such as the Goddess Project, Project Harmony, and our "Brooklyn is PrEP’d!" collaboration.
Our team will be on hand to share resources, answer questions, and discuss how HEAT can support individuals and families in their healthcare journeys.
Why World AIDS Day Matters
World AIDS Day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made in combating HIV/AIDS and the challenges that remain. It’s a day to commemorate the lives lost to HIV/AIDS, celebrate the achievements in prevention and care, and strengthen efforts to eliminate stigma and ensure equitable access to health care for all.
The “We Are Stronger Together” event will bring together advocates, community leaders, and health professionals to honor this year’s awardees while promoting awareness and unity. With live performances and impactful discussions, the event is a testament to the resilience and strength of our community in its mission to end the HIV epidemic.
